I believe we each have the capacity to nourish and care for ourselves, but life sometimes interjects various degrees of harm or dysregulation into our paths. Maybe you've had the nagging feeling that something just isn't right, and you tell yourself "What do I have to be anxious or depressed about? Lots of people have it worse than me. I can handle this on my own." Or you have become disconnected from your partner. The survival strategies you have developed are no longer working or are actively harming you or your relationships.
My therapeutic approach is trauma-informed and sex-positive, grounded in attachment relational, and experiential models. I strive to empower clients to gain insight about their behavior and move toward healthier relational patterns, through addressing the underlying emotions, and avoidance of those feelings that keep people stuck in self-defeating patterns.
Maybe those old wounds have become like well-worn paths you've paced. Maybe you only felt loved when you were loved for what you achieved, and not for you. Maybe you never had a safe place or someone to turn to and developed the sense that the world is not a safe place. Maybe you were abandoned at a critical time and developed the belief that no one can be trusted. Maybe your inner critic is always telling you that you will never be good enough no matter how much you hustle. Maybe you were taught that it's selfish to think about your own needs, so you put everyone else's above your own, leaving you feeling depleted and empty. Maybe you were neglected or abandoned and believe your needs don't matter.
