Online Therapy in New Mexico and Michigan
Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) is a highly effective form of couples counseling aimed at helping couples form a more secure emotional bond. EFT is my passion. I believe in this work and the healing power of being securely connected to the one we love the most. But the world teaches us the opposite. How many of us have heard that we need to be independent, need to be strong on our own, be self-sufficient, don’t be clingy or co-dependent. These false messages create distance between you and the person you love the most, which leads to conflict and suffering. The more conflict we have, the more distance we have.
EFT is a powerful journey, helping couples move from disconnection and distance to closeness and security.
Attachment Theory and EFT view our need to feel securely attached as basic a need as food and water. When we understand attachment, we understand why relationship challenges tend to cause us so much distress, because they can undermine our fundamental need to feel that our partner is there for us. We are then able to see that partners' complaints and demands actually represent a cry for help.
A safe and healing space to explore, reflect, and begin taking steps toward a healthier life. I am experienced in working with highly motivated individuals willing to receive feedback and engage in self-reflection toward lasting change. I specialize in the following areas:
Attachment Insecurity and Distress
Attachment Injury Repair
Parts Work
Trauma Recovery
Somatic Therapy
Relationship Distress (picking the wrong person, repeating unhealthy patterns, self-identity, fear of vulnerability)
People Pleasing
Why Group?
Group therapy can be a beautiful addition to previous or current individual treatment. Group experiences provide us the opportunity to hear our experiences reflected back to us by others with similar experiences. Groups provide acknowledgement, validation, and belonging. Distorted perceptions we've held for decades are challenged and dismantled. When I talk with clients about groups, I often hear "I'm better one-on-one. I can't imagine talking in front of strangers." Many clients prefer individual therapy because they assume that a group setting will not allow for the same level of clarity as achieved in individual appointments. This is inaccurate and further exacerbates the mis-information about groups.
Groups contain a unique dynamic that individual therapy doesn't. Groups unite us in a common experience--to confront the pain that brings you to group therapy. Guided in didactic nature by a trained psychotherapist, groups offer a unique experience in learning new skills, including:

"Without Lisa's help and guidance, I'd still be knocking holes in walls. She helped guide me through some of the most difficult and frustrating times in my life. She has been helpful beyond measure."
-T.L.
" Lisa made me feel completely supported and safe in exploring my feelings and validating my experience.
I feel empowered through the year I have spent in therapy with Lisa and feel confident that I can grow and overcome the challenges that lead me to initially seek therapy."
-E.F.
" Lisa is a remarkable therapist to work with. She is intuitive, experienced, patient, kind, empathetic, and thorough. Lisa’s customizes her approach based on the individual’s personality as well as the couple as a whole. Her approach is effective yet nurturing and validating. Her ability to quickly get to the root of the issue is remarkable as well as to explain and educate. Lisa creates an environment that is safe and a place where hard work can be accomplished. I am extremely grateful to be able to work with Lisa."
